Default difference in rear main seals!

I am going to be replacing my rear main seal here and i see it is easier to replace it with the two piece seal, but I want to know will the two piece or one piece last longer? I would rather not put one in and then have to replace it in a couple months.

Well unfortunatly u have to find out if ur seal is one peice or two. If its 2 u dont have to remove the engine! If its one peice have fun but id go with the 2 peice eaiser to replace

all 4.0L engines use a 2 piece RMS. Drop the pan, remove the cap, slide the old top half out, slide the new top half in, bolt everything back up. The hardest part is getting the pan off.

There's your answer. I'm pretty sure if you found a 1 piece, it's a wrong part and wont fit. If you install the 2 piece properly, it'll last you a very long time.

100% sure it's the RMS leaking? Any oil leak from the rear of the valve cover, oil filter adapter, oil sender, or dizzy gasket will drip from the RMS area simply because your engine sits slightly nose-up and the RMS area is the lowest spot for any oil leak to drip from.

Here's the story about a year ago i threw a rod, so i went out and bought a new engine and I was in such a hurry that I didn't change any of the gaskets. Last summer I replaced the oil filter housing just out of the blue. But I know that the head gasket is leaking externally but not enough to make that big of a difference. It is defiantly the RMS. I am just going to replace all of the seals in the mean time

I'm assuming you mean the valve cover when you say the head gasket? Yeah do the rear main. And since you have to drop the oil pan to do it, get a good Felpro rubber gasket on the oil pan. And may as well throw a new drain plug seal on there as well since you'll obviously have to drain the oil to do all this

Blown head gasket is a ticking time bomb.
