Default dieing while driving help

hey guys,

I have a 2000 xj 4.0 5 speed. as of last night 5/23/2014 the vehicle has been trying to die while driving. While coming from a stop and grabbing second(or even staying in first) the rpm will drop, mashing the gas would do nothing (engine on but RPMs falling at this point) but if I put the clutch to the floor the engine would run normally before it stalled out than i can drive normally until it happens again. It for another 5-6 minutes. any info will help a lot thanks so much.

Have you ever seen a check engine light? If so, you must pull codes for clues and guidance on where to start.

As Mr. Walker said start by having it checked for any stored codes. Also if you don't have a CEL there can still be stored codes. Any chain parts store will check it for codes for free. Pulling any codes will give you a direction to look. Then we can go from there.
BTW, When you get the codes post the actual code numbers then we from there.

So I drove to work and it died 5 times seems like starving for gas than it will either get back to running once it hits near 0 rpm. Or it will die and take about a minute to crank over. Hope this helps could this be fuel filter or pump the vehicle is only been with me for 3 weeks

Since you are going to take it in to have the codes read. While you are there see if you can barrow a mechanical pressure gauge and check the pressure on the fuel rail. Your year should have 49psi +or- 5psi. Also you really don't have a fuel filter. It's a screen and you would have to drop the fuel tank to clean it.
