Im putting a new head on 4.0. I didn't mark the Push rods when I took them out of the head. If I put them back in randomly is that going to be a problem? Everything that i read says yes. Just looking for a resolution if so.

Anyway, I did that once; nothing bad happened. Maybe it doesn't really matter, or maybe I just got lucky lol.
Since then, I've been putting them back in order tho

Clean'em good, check the ends for burrs, make sure they're straight and drop 'em back in.

There must be a little bit of " I forgot to mark the push rod relation" in this Ocala water.
The push rods have only about 10k or less miles. Long story. Rebuilt the motor. The machine shop Magnafluxed the head and said no cracks. Guess they didn't look well enough. I hate the 0331 head !!

Push rods shouldn't be a big issue. Would it be nice to put them back exactly? Yes. Will it kill the 4.0? not likely

Hey, I thought we were "family friendly" on here.

As far as the pushrods, I never put them back in as they came out. Up until recently, I was not aware that some feel that you should.

As an earlier poster said, we just used to clean them, blow them out and look inside to make sure there was no blockage, roll them across a straight and level surface to make sure they weren't bent, and put them back in, in no particular order.

Never had a problem. They are going to end up sitting on a new lifter and a random rocker arm anyway.

Sounds like someone is a little OCD about them. Present company excluded.

Regarding my distaste for 4.0s being labeled tractor engines when indeed they are NOT!
