dashboard light help!!!!! please!!!!

Exclamation dashboard light help!!!!! please!!!!

so i put in a new head unit and that night my gauges backlights wont come on. its not my first time doin a h/u install ive done it multiple times on my xj. the turn indicators and high beam indicator works but that it. i really need help here. i can barely drive at night..

juss lmk wht to check, how to check it, how to fix it. i dont mind having a toggle switch for the backlights but i dont know how to do that because of the dimmer function.

i appreciate any help.

Take the head unit back out and restore the wiring to it's original condition. Grab a harness adapter from your favorite sound shop or auto parts store and re-install the head unit.

how does restoring the wiring fix my dash problem?

thats like taking gas and pooring it on your floor, lighting it, then saying well if i take back the lighter to the store and mop up the gas itll bring my house back...

Because based on your post the problem began after you installed the head unit. Makes sense that you made a mistake.

Default try this

check fuses 15,17 & 19. If those are fine then get deeper into it.

i juss figure whatever damage that was cause by the h/u is done. i juss need help with finding what happened.

And the only way to know is to pull the head uint and double check your wiring.

so somewhere down the wires it merges with the dashlights?

Yes, the dash light power circuit also sends power to the radio illumination circuit.

but since its an aftermarket h/u i didnt use the illumination lead.

i just went out and tested the three listed fuses... fuse nineteen isnt firing.

If the new fuse blows immediately then you've got a short to ground.
