Found another twist and tape wire coming right off the battery positive. Good grief.

Previous owners for you. But in my case you can't always blame the owners. My LPG system and immobiliser (which I believe were fitted by 2 different companies) both have wires just like that, they were done in the late 90's and both still work (bar a door lock issue that cropped up today). One system that can cut the ignition if it wants to or looses connection and the other which is fuelling the Jeep. At least if the LPG failed it'll default back to petrol.

I don't dare touch much to do with either system as the wires have some cracked casings on the immobiliser, and my LPG system is that outdated, if I break it, it would be an expensive new system.

I found a few empty connectors in that area as well that looked factory and presumably for things i don't have like the underhood light. I traced them back and eliminated them up in the wiring harness. While you're in that area, unbolt the bolt and clean the connectors underneath. They're a frequent problem (and one of Cruisers tips, I believe)

Ok, sorry to keep this going but I figured it was better than starting a new thread.

This is the starter relay wire that I

can't find where it goes? It comes of the battery terminal into 3 red wires. One is not connected to anywhere and I can't find a wiring diagram that shows where these 3 go.

You mean you don't know where they go after leaving the relay?

Get me the terminal numbers and I might be able to help.

What terminal numbers? They come if relay then 2 of them go forward into the bundle that goes across the front of the Jeep. The 3rd one was not connected anywhere and was tied around here when I bought the Jeep.

Look real closely on the brown part of the relay next to the terminals.

It's attached to the battery terminal.

Ah, the elusive Starter Relay. Mine has been replaced with a Toyota relay at some point in the distant past.

I discovered that when I was chasing my lighting problem.

And speaking of my lighting problem, it was the light switch, of course. Back to normal again.

Serious?

Have you done the upgrade harness?

I have done a whole bunch of preventative and protective maintenance on electrical components including ground improvements (except the windshield wiper motor ground renewal) but I don't think I've ever run across a harness upgrade on your website.
Can you give me a gentle reminder, please?

Ah yes, my friend. I did this one many, many moons ago thanks to you. .

Back to my current running lights issue - I suspect the switch wasn't the best quality.

One thing my Cherokee has taught me over the years is how important grounds are and how many problems they cause.

I may have to pull the cowling and finally fix the ground on that wiper motor!
