Default Dash Lights not Working

I can't get the dash lights to work on my '91 limited. I have checked the fuses and they all look good. I put in a new headlight switch and still no dash lights. Somebody tell me where to go and what to check from here. Don't know what else to do. Please help!!!

It can possibly be the connectors behind the instrument panel the do have the tendency to come loose and or corrode. You will have to pull the cluster to find out for sure. This may sound like a dumb question. But did you try turning the head light ****. You would be surprised how many people just forget to think of the simple things.

Turn it counter clock wise, also try checking for current on both sides of fuses

I did take the cluster out and everything looked good behind there. I just checked for current on both sides of the fuse and now the fuse is blown. Put a new one in and blew again. So now I am blowing fuses. Apparently got a short somewhere? What could be blowing the fuse?

Checked parking lights. Everything looks good there. They all work and connections seemed fine. Anything else I could check. don't know where to go from here. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for cluster. I'm not very good with wiring, but I guess I'll have to learn. Thanks for all the help.

Make sure the harness for the shift indicator light isn' grounding out. Also, install a new stereo recently?

There was an aftermarket radio installed when I bought it. It wasn't working at the time but I had somebody look at it and get it working. The dash lights didn't work when I bought it either. Just going through and trying to get everything working. I have heard about the radio thing. What exactly do I check on an aftermarket radio install that could be blowing dash light fuses? I will also check on the shift indicator harness. What wire do I unplug on the dash cluster? I will try that too. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Keep unplugging stuff as freegdr suggests. If the fuse quits blowing after unplugging something, that's where the short is.
It's very common for people to hook up the radios wrong........

Great news. Thanks to you guys for helping. I took the whole dash apart checking everything I could think of to check. Started unplugging things and ?Viola? when I unplugged the radio, the fuse would not blow. The installer had it hooked up all wrong. After alot of researching I finally got it hooked up right so the dash lights work along with the radio. It's really weird, but the radio had to be hooked up to the dimmer wire on the jeep harness. That is the ONLY way I could get it to work. I tried hooking the radio up to the hot wire and the ignition wire, but then it would blow fuses. When I hooked the radio up to the dimmer wire, it works. But when you turn the dimmer down, the radio slowly goes down too, until it finally goes off when the lights are all the way down. The radio will also momentarily turn off then back on when you turn the lights on or off. I thought I read somewhere that that is the thing that people do wrong when installing radios in XJ's, that they cannot hook up the dimmer wire. Well, that is the only way mine will work and still have dash lights???? Whatever, as long as it works. I can put up with the radio going on and off when I turn on the lights and I never use the dimmer thing on my dash lights anyway, so it's all good.
