Well "Dana" is referring to an axle. For example in my 89 Cherokee i have a Dana 30 (front axle) and a Dana 35 (rear axle). But in newer Cherokees i believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, they have a Chrysler 8.25 rear axle. Hope that kinda answers your question, and if you all ready knew that.... my bad haha.

You are right but some newer ones came with the 8.25 and dana 35. It just all depends. If you have ABS then you have a dana 35 well in some cases. ( they only did ABS with dana 35 never a 8.25)

For the most part the higher the Dana number the stronger the axle is, for example if you are going to run 35 inch tires u should be running at least a Dana 44 and if you decide to go with a 37 inch or bigger tire u could use a Dana 60 all xj`s came stock with a Dana 30 but they had three different rear axles the Dana 35 the Dana 44 and the Chrysler 8.25.

Hope this helps

Dana is a company that makes Differentials/axles (Dana-Spicer actually)
There are many different models.
D30
D35
D44
D60, ETC

AFAIK, the higher the number the stronger it is.. -----Dodge beat me.

great info guys, idk who is in charge around here but on my dsmforums we have a wiki where there are just some threads dedicated to the basic information like this. Not baggin on your guys site just trying to help you make it better! We also have upgrade paths for the different systems such as suspension, engine, drive train, and sound systems. Hope this gets to the right ears.

Jeepforum has a wiki
It would be a good idea to have one here, but the admins dont like to change anything...
