Hey guys, as expected my vac disconnect system is no bueno. Im against replacing it, Id rather shell out money for a cable system than a newer motor. I've heard of people pulling it apart and switching around the clips so it stays in the locked position, free is better
my question is: does this mod change any of the dynamics of the system? Has anyone ran this setup and broken the clip? Or is there a sure fire way (besides welding) to keep that sucker in place?
I've got a trip coming up and id really like to have my 4x4 system up and running.
Thanks!

Just did it to mine 2 nights ago. Very pleased. Do it now while dry and daylight. I waited and had to do it last minute near dark with freezing temps on the snow while sleeting. NO BUENO!

I took a look at it today with my dad. He wants to find the problem because the motor seems fine to him. He also wants to see why I think it isn't working (clunking from the front right corner and loss of traction on front right wheel). Put it all back together and sinched it up. Ill show him tonight and do the mod tomorrow
got my bumper and spacers on today though looks bad ***!

When Im engaged yeah, its just like after a minute or two theres a clunking and loss of traction. I think its the shift collar moving back over. I'll test again tonight and do the true fix tomorrow hopefully before the red cross vampires get me...

There's a little dirt lot near my house, was a gas station about 20 years ago that was removed. Its got weeds and grasses growing and is loose from all the rain we've been getting. Nothing special, can't do donuts on it but It slips enough for the 4x4. My dad was lazy so we're doing it tomorrow.

Shift collar cant really be heard, clunking from front end sounds more serious . Part time light stays on during clunking ?

Yes light is on. Just replaced the axle u joints and the hubs are fine. It only happens about a minute or two after being in 4h and I haven't tried low yet. If the shift collar is less than halfway engaged it could be slipping on the splines?
