Default Dana 30 LP to HP

The Dana 30 on my 2000 XJ is needing replaced and I would like to change the LP to a HP. Looking at it, changing the tubes from one differential to the other looks to be the easiest way of making this change. Has anybody done this change? Does a LP vs. HP use a different front drive shaft?

Thanks

I believe HP and LP 30's are pretty much identical, so you should just be able to find one at the junkyard and throw it in. Possibly might need a different driveshaft, but other then that....

And unless you have someway to get them apart, swapping the axle tubes would be a HUGE PITA!

The easiest way to go from LP to HP is to just swap the entire axle. They are an easy axle to find and aren't costly.

NO! hp is reverse cut, lp is, regular cut? They won't work. Just swap axles.

You need a 3 or 4 lift lift to clear the exhaust or mod the down pipe.

That's not true I swapped my lp to hp and didn't have to do anything but bolt it up and go and mine was stock no lift

It depends on if you have the lovely California emissions with the cats in the downpipe.

I'm assuming you mean hp d30. That sounds like a damn good plan to me! I wish I had the same laying around. Are MJ d30 and XJ d30 definitely the same? Don't quote me on this, but I have a gut feeling that I read somewhere that the lca mounts are different or something? I may be 100% wrong, just don't want to see you get halfway through to find out it won't work.

That I do not know about the mounts. Im lucky to have a buddy doing tons and I got hell of a deal on the axles. But the swap wont happen soon due to I work everyday and days offs never back to back. Plan on doing a truss and disk brake swap on the 8.25 on my next day off!

Yes. The entire front end is identical. The rear springs are what you're thinking of.
