I Did search. and did find things. The front axle seals in a Dana 30 in my 90, (command track, w Disco, or "CAD") are in the differential for the left, and outside the disco on the Right. (so the disco gets juice). (you guys other is the same on the right as the left.)(in the diff)
So you pull the carriage in the diff. and drive them out with a long rod. Clean through there. They can be installed with a slide hammer, or "drawn" w/a long threaded rod, & nut, Anyway...
...............................................I edited out "driven"^
Anybody know about changing just the right side seal in the disco? Short of pulling the whole deal? I could dig in and figure it out, just thought I'd fish for someone who has been here.
Btw I got a part# 710 068 for the left seal, and 710 202 for the right, from Car Quest on a Sunday. Of course they only stocked the one that's not leaking.

Man that's a b****. And I mean every bit of that. You do have to pull the carrier out to be able to get in there the way you need to. Hell, I did mine with my entire front end out of the Jeep and it still sucked.
I made my own tool to help keep the seal perfectly straight while pulling it in. That's the problem with that seal, it can't be hit in, it'll go crooked, bend, and then rip (Ask me how I know.) It needs to be pulled through the tube and kept perfectly square with the seat.
Tip: Buy yourself an extra seal. Worst case scenario you've got it and don't need it rather than it be 11PM and you destroy the seal trying to figure out how to put it in right...again, don't ask me how I know.....
If you want some pictures of the tool I made, I can shoot them over to you. It was pretty simple and worked great. Good luck, have fun, buy at least a 12 pack and find a friend.
Edit: You really need to pull the whole carrier out. If you're careful you won't destroy the driver's seal, but there is only one seal in the disco. Only at outboard the disconnect.

Much thanks TA...I had figured out some of that. An extra is a good idea. Later I'll post the links to the 3 or so installer tools I found.
My question is, just for the outer on the disco. No hope if just teasing it in like any other seal? Short of setting up a slide hammer, or pulling all the rest for all the way through.
"That's the problem with that seal, it can't be hit in, it'll go crooked, bend, and then rip" Ok I hear you....mmmmm a challenge?

If you're going to accept that challenge, I want pics to prove it happened! My knuckles are still destroyed from this job. All the tools I found were like 100 bucks+. i just used a bunch of washers and a 34MM socket (I think.)
I really don't think you'll be able to tease it in and get it to seat right because of how perfectly square it has to be to hit the seal seat. If you can make it work, more power to you and you will make a TON of people happy because that cuts out a few hours worth of work. I just don't know/see it happening from my experience, but hey there's nothing to lose from trying.

Ha! OK, Understood. Just to be triple clear, just the right hand outer in the disco is my target. I DO have a little slide-hammer/dent puller somewhere. I''ll likely take your advise and get two. The store is not close. I've "teased" more tricky seals than I can remember. (I DO get, they can be a frich). I'm thinking something flat in there against it I can whack to at least start it straight. Maybe not! Grrr. Guess I should make sure I have some all-thread as well.

Get like 4' of threaded rod.
Use a hole saw and cut out a piece of wood roughly the same size as the seal.
Put a nut, washer, wood cutout, washer, nut on the threaded rod (after you put it through the axle tube and through the seal into the diff) and use that to evenly pull the seal into place.

Do you happen to have the part# for the right? Car Quest thought 710 202, (Napa was closed).
And thanks much to all! I'll post pics...might not have the seal till Tuesday though.

Thanks!
Having that might save me more than a couple bucks (with my phone plan)
I gave up registering on NAXJA after about 10 tries. I'm certain I typed the stupid word right more than a few times!

Not to mention that they list 2 different seals when there's only one.....
