Dana 30 axle seal
Taking out my Dana 30 axle seals today I noticed that the orange seal is really beat up. It looks like RTV or Permex and not like an O-Ring. Does anyone know what this is and if it is replaceable?
I am guessing I can take the rest of it out and clean it up then lay down a new bead of sealant. But I want you opinion.
(not my photo but it shows the orange seal)

it's the outer axle oil seal and it is replaceable ($5 at Advanced Auto). It's made from Permatex, but unless you have a way to form the stuff perfectly, I'd just buy a new one.

Okay so i did alot more research. It is not replaceable.... It is put on there when the tubes are placed in.... It is permanent. however if cleaned up a new bead of RTV can be placed there if needed. It is just there to prevent seeping out the axle tube/diff junction. I bought brand new axle seals tho.
