definitly get a 91-99 axle, although there are some differences throughout the years.
i got one out of what was said to be a 93 but it has different knuckles for the calipers.
for you i would go with 96-99

Good point there, if you have an auto tranny, make sure to grab a front axle out of an XJ that also has an auto tranny. And if you have a manual, grab one out of a manual. The gear ratios are different.

IIRC the later XJs have stronger U-Joints, I wouldn't be surprised if a D30 from a V8 ZJ had them as well. But again, everything aside from the XJ is low pinion.
