Default Cylinder Head Question, 2001 Cherokee Sprt

After having removed everything else from the engine compartment that needs to come out in order to pull the cylinder head I am now stumped when it comes to taking off the head bolts....

What do I need to remove these bolts?? They look like 12 point bolts but I don't have a tool that fits them properly, 9/16th's is to big & 1/2 is to small...while 14mm is too big & 13mm is too small...

Do I need some special tool just because it's a chrysler/jeep?? This is the first time I've torn one of these engines down, I have more experience in the foreign car area...but I've never needed a special tool for head bolts before??

Thanks in advance,
Josh

There is nothing special about them, did you try a 12 point socket on them? I just went out to see if I had any on the bench,If I remember right they are 12 point 12mm. The best I can advise is if a 6 point socket does not work on them a 12 point will. You may have to try a few sizes from 12-14mm.

you must use the 12 point socket. no way around it. good luck finding one. try a snap on dealer. it's where I had to go.

thanks for the replys guys, finally got em loose...they had a little rust on em and i was trying to use a non 12 point deep socket since my only 12 pointers are not deep, but a 13mm box wrench worked on the manifold side where the studs are and a standard 12 point socket worked for the other side

I ended up using a 13mm 12 point socket on them, i think a 1/2" SAE 12 pointer would have worked, but all my 12 point sockets are metric.
