Yeah your head is fine, its the 1999-2001 heads with the 0331 casting number that are a problem.

I would just get a JY head, only some of these heads crack if you overheat them. I dont see much point in spending $350 on the same casting from autozone or $600 from alabama cylinder heads or other aftermarket heads.

It's not the same casting as the original heads, they have a thicker casting all over which eleminate's the cracking issue between cly. #3 & 4.Also with the castings from alabama, automotive,Blake's etc, the high priced heads have more of a performance valve job,and more. I bought one from Alabama cyl. for mine just the standard replacment and it was only 375.00 with free shipping and a return label for the old one.So a little more searching goes along way's.Also junkyard heads I wouldn't bother with, put on a new one it's worth it in this case,( common sense would tell you this) junkyard parts to use would be things like panels ,seats, anything that isn't really important. Check out e-bay for a head also sometime's they have a smashing good deal.

Try the local junkyard, but sometime they will not sell just the head.

Alabama Cylinder Head or Clearwater Cylinder Head for revised heads for the 00-01.

Or get a junkyard head from a Grand Cherokee or a Wrangler that is 2003 or newer with the stamping TUPY between cylinders 3-4.

Don't get another junkyard head that is the same as you have. You were burned once, don't risk getting burned again. The factory 00-01 0331 cylinder head is a dog, pure and simple. Not all will fail, but I answer about a half a dozen threads a week on ones that have failed. It is not uncommon.

Well I just pulled the valve cover and I don't see a crack between 3 and 4 wtf!!!? The mechanic said that it was 90% sure it was that? Should be able to see the crack?? It was just sludged up with white on filler cap and on the cover.. But I'm losing coolent and it's not leaking anywhere that we can find?? Any help greatly appreciated!

Most of the time you wont be able to see a crack, heads generally crack around a valve seat where you cant see it. About the only way to confirm a crack is to pressure test or magnaflux the head. Now if you say you have a milky color to the oil then you deffinately have water in it. It could be just as simple as a blown head gasket.

You will see the crack it will have a small thin line of coolant,( if you couldn't see the crack like stated above noone would know it cracked there when the head is still on the motor)Try when at full temp, and when cooling or cooled down, you'll see it if it's cracked. Is your head gasket good? try a pressure test on the rad. Also it cracks right in the center on the flat spot of the head between 3&4 not at the valve seat,(make's you wonder where some of this info come's from). Keep us posted on your outcome's.I've done two of my own and helped on about six so far. Also did a 99,88,95 and96 heads (not cracked but warped by DA's and some HGasket's) good luckWhat does your oil look like? On one of my 00 the oil looked fine ,I just had about 10 quart's when I drained it, get yourself a 12 qt bucket mark where six qt's is and drain oil and see if you have more than 6 qt's.

Can you back track and tell us why you think you have a cracked head?

Was there "white" exhaust giving you a clue that coolant was reaching the cylinder(s)?

Were you losing coolant 'somewhere'?

Did the "mechanic" do a compression test? If he did, he would (should) have reported loss of compression in the two cylinders he reported a crack in-between.

Could you have possibly blown just the gasket?

Did he do an "air check" into the cylinders to check the valves? (on compression stroke)

In short, I think you need to investigate and think of the symptoms a bit more before you start throwing parts (and $$$) at it.

Get back with us and tell the details of the symptoms prior to removing the head.

Just did a pressure test and I heard hissing coming from the valves yes they were both closed tdc. And all the cylinders hissed.. Idk mechanic said drop it off and he will look at it tommarow. My oil looks good... But I lose a **** ton of coolent! No leaks and I have seen white lingering smoke after I come back from school.. 2 hr drive...

If the smoke is 'white-ish', the two indications you describe are good indications of head issues. Swap it for a new one at Advanced (your old one will be the core), bolt the new one on (make sure your block is still 'flat') with a new gasket. You'll save tons of cash.

Well it deff. Is the head now.. And now bin deciding between swapping heads or engines cuz I believe I've been driving I. It since I've bought it! And it has low oil pressure so thinking it took a toll on the bottom end? Or maybe not it does have 180 thousand.. So idk if it's worth it or not. Let me now what I guys think thanks!
