Crown rear bumpstops

Default Crown rear bumpstops

The rear bumpstops under my 97 are shot. One debonded and fell off somewhere. The other isnt far behind. The remaining bumpstop measures 2 3/4" (close enough). Crown sells an OEM replacement (52004297), but i can only find them in orange, why no black? Summit carries them (orange, of course). They say foam, others say rubber. Which is it?


Crown also sells part number 52002393, which comes in black, and is made of rubber. But they are 4" in height. I would have to cut them down, clearly. How far into the rubber do the backing plates reach?

I can't answer your question but why does the color matter? You can't see them unless your under the jeep.

I think the orange ones are for 4x4 XJs. That's what I bought.


I painted mine black using tire paint.

I bought the 4" crowns thinking I would have to cut them down. However, I put them in at the same time I put new dorman leaf springs in, and they have been just fine without cutting them down (I am about 1" over stock height). I don't think I have actually contacted them with the axle yet. (though I'm pretty much a flatland driver).

I like everything to remain as close to factory as humanly possible, and 9 times out of 10 factory bushings and the like are black, where as colored tends to be aftermarket. Usually. So, i was looking for black bumpstops. Anyway, after dissecting what was left of the remaining bumpstop i could see that it was in fact orange, at one time. It blackened over time, apparently. If they were orange from the factory, then that is what i will replace it with. Details.


The first three bolts eased out with the impact after soaking in PB for a couple days. The last bolt snapped, was rotten from the inside. Atleast it will be easy to get at. Forward bolt on the driver side. Plenty of room.

With something as miniscule as bump stops anything shoukd be an adequate replacement. Something mechanical or electrical yeah something factory buy bumpstops. But if the inside is orange that's cool to know. Wonder how they looked brand new!

For those that have used nutserts when replacing bumpstops, what size did you use, and how have they been holding up? My uncle has a nutsert kit and the largest ones in there are 5/16-18. Once drawn in, will that be enough to hold indefinitely? Are rivnuts any better? I even thought about using a jacknut in there.
