Is this normal or do i have a timing chain slack or is it crankshaft issure?

The only thing that can be determined by that video is that you do have a lot of timing chain slack. I can't say "more than normal" because normal is relevant to the amount of miles on the motor. I would suggest to go ahead an pull the timing cover off and have a better look. If all of that play is slack, change your timing chain.

 

hmmmmm. just watched your video.......when you do this movement with your hands on the balancer (yes I know its only just a wee bit of movement), do you see ANY movement on the valves at all?
(spring/rocker moving even the slightest bit?).

And how hard are you turning this? I mean, it is REAL easy, or are you using significant effort to move the balancer?

How many miles on it? Also, what are your compression readings? (provided you did them).

can't recall, did you post saying something about misfire previously? (pardon my ignorance sir!)

seems like that would be normal between compression strokes (i.e just before/after TDC), cuz I know when I was turning mine with a b-bar and socket, there was a point during cycle that it turned relatively easy, so I would venture to say, you are probably all right.....

But, that is just MY opinion.

I will just say that it just does not seem right to me to have any play.I think that is quite a lot of play actually. I would definitely have a look under the cover.

Oh, i didn't really use much force on it and i haven't got the chance to look under the valve cover yet (hopefully next 2 days).
This is a stock XJ and i just want to check the overall condition of the motor before i invest some serious $$$ on LA lift kit and other stuff.

Would really appreciate you can help .

I would pull the balance off and check the key way. The balancer is connected directly to the crankshaft.If that is with the plugs in you shouldn't be able to move it that easy bad timing chain or not.

 

X2 with Zj....guess a guy could watch the torque plate or put a straw through a plug hole touching a piston. If the plugs are in and the crank isn't turning, that's allot of slop.

 

If that were mine I'd be knee deep in a rebuild by now.

Oh hellyes. You should not be able to move the balancer by hand at all. You're bottom end (rotating assembly) needs a long and thorough inspection.

 

I'll report back after i remove the timing cover.

Looks like a lot of slack to me....i'll go ahead and replace it.
