I have a crank but no start on my 96. I gutted the whole interior to fix rust and my had to move it outside for the night. When I tried to start it in the morning to move it back the lights all turned on but when I want to crank everything shut off. There was condensation on the battery terminals so I cleaned those and now it cranks but isn't starting. Have not had any problems before this and had no problem starting yesterday to move it. There was alot of condensation in the engine bay it rained a lot last night the car was covered though. Any ideas. I swapped the asd relay already and my fuel pump is working I can hear it turn on

Water will drive you crazy...There's probably water in a connector somewhere...Sometimes it takes days to return to normal unless you blow everything out and even then it might not dry enough....

I waited til it got warmer and stopped raining there was no condensation so I checked the battery and got it recharged that didn't help. It ended up being the crank position sensor. Got one from Napa and put it on and it fired up again

Would the CPS also cause a crank, No start problem if it's been less than 30 minutes since I shut it off? I cnndriv for 5 minutes, or 5 hours, doesn't matter. If I shut my 99 down, and try to restart in less than 30 minutes...... it cranks, but won't start

Yeah it could be getting too hot you can try spraying some water on it and see if it'll turn over. Does your car just shut off when driving. On my other Jeep it kept turning off while driving changed the CPS and that fixed it.

Get an AC volts reading from that CPS while cranking and sensor unplugged. I've seen brand new parts store ones that barely have strong enough signal to work. The intensity of the signal goes up with RPM so it makes sense that it would work once running but struggle to start while cranking.
You should get 0.5-0.8 vac from the sensor. My last new one put out 0.7v. The intermittent one I took out made 0.4v.
If you're getting over 0.5vac while cranking and the connector is good then the CPS can be ruled out.
I've also read about modifying the CPS to sit a millimeter closer to the flywheel to get a stronger signal. Haven't done it myself but read positive reports. Handy trick if you can't get a replacement right away.

When this happened to my (much older, 1993) Cherokee, it was the wire that fed power to the distributor's sensor (it's a 2-wire rubber plug connector on mine). Inside the rubber, the crimp connector, where it stress-relieves the wire, had caused the wire to break. I only accidentally discovered it when I bent the wire upward after unplugging-replugging it, which made it run again for a minute, then when the wire settled back downward from gravity, it stopped again. I tied a string to the wire to pull it upward at the connector until I got a new cable for it: that actually worked(!).

I don't know if this could apply to you or not.
I had this happen on my grand cherokee but now can't recall if it was my 1996 or 1998
I had a no crank no start. replaced the cps and everything worked great for a day. start and stop no problem restarting. next day no start again. replaced the cps again and then worked great for a day and then again the next day crank no start.
long story short started the replacement throwing hope replacing one part at a time, again with every part same thing worked great for a day and then again crank but no start
i replaced the cps, wires, plugs, ignition pack, distributor cap
people was at cross roads and then someone mentioned the cam sensor and that started a whole debate on if they even have them. Can not pull up a cam sensor on autozone, advance auto, or o;rileys
come to find out the cam sensor is in the distributor cap and its call the ignition coil pickup sensor, replaced that and never had a problem again with the jeep cranking but not starting.
that may or may not be the issue, possibly it got wet when it was outside I don't know just throwing my experience out on mine.
