That's surprising when your taxes, registration fees, and fuel prices are through the roof. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. I do suggest to shop around as well! Getting a quote is free and there are no strings attached.

Old fart with a wrench
I have total glass coverage in my insurance policy and they replaced my windshield for free. It only costs me an additional $14 a year.

Well this being my first vehicle, and the fact that it's just an old XJ I only got liability insurance on it to save some money. It would be great if I had full coverage but I already spend enough on gas for this pig haha. Straight piping my XJ was the worst financial decision I've ever made because I can't drive for 20 minutes without a 2-3 pull etc.

Yeah, well, the chances are another one will crack could be 10 years ..or never? I guess in 10 yrs you'd pay $140, so maybe it is worth it. My ins costs more than that for windshield.
It sucks when a guy is REALLY young, they really nail ya on insurance. But then a lot of young guys drive w/o a care in the world too (probably not you). Get married and it'll drop!

I had my screen crack the very first time I took it to my caravan. We jump started a garden mower which doesn't fully disengage its cutting deck, it must have thrown a stone my way and crack. I had it repaired on insurance but found a lot of rust in the frame which I had to repair. Being in the UK, I can't really give you any suggestions on where to go though so good luck with getting your replacement.

I always get rock chips in the glass repaired ASAP. Don't wait. Costs me $30 per star at the local glass shop, but I have never had a repair turn into a full blown windshield crack.

When I got mine it wasn't a typical "chip" I guess. It was to cracks about an inch long making a plus sign. I didn't think that a crack like that was really repairable or able to be stopped.
