Did a little bit of wheelin today and after pulling a dead tree out of my way i did a little flexing on it. After checking it out a bit, i opened the door and noticed a crack on my door frame right by the small vent. It's an 88 2 door. Is there an easy way to fix this? Should i be worried about it? I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow.

Mine has a few light cracks also. It hasn't caused any problems yet. I'm just waiting for the one time I slam the door and the striker gets ripped out of the panel. I'm probably gonna weld all the cracks up in the near future.

thanks for the response. I was thinking of just welding it up too.

Seems like it's the only way to really fix it. You just have to make sure you grind everything real smoothy-smooth afterwards or the welds may interfere with the door closing properly. Should take more than 20 minutes to do both side, just a pain in the butt.

I realize this is an old thread but this also happened on my Jeep Cherokee 2 Door which is a 98. It happened right by the little vents in the door jams.

My rig is completely stock and has never been wheeled or anything. If enough people have this problem it seems to me it should be a recall issue. It's happened to me on BOTH doors.

not really a problem, my buddies 2 door has some cracks at the vents and he has done some hard wheeling after without splitting in half, if you really don't like it I would say fix them and add unibody stiffeners

But isn't this odd on a vehicle that hasn't seen any wheeling or off road action at all? I mean hell mine is only 2WD!

I'll take some pics and post them tomorrow. I don't want more cracks to happen and then eventually have the striker plate just completely fall off one day if I shut the door hard.
