Thumbs down cost to get windshield fixed

Went to the car wash today and as I was sitting in the Jeep, I started to notice this line forming on the windshield... After it was all done i got out and looked at it and there was a very small chip in the windshield from where it started. I was wondering if there is anyone that professional installs glass that could give me a rough estimate as to what I am going to be spending to replace the windshield as it has other chips and dings in it(all from PO). Thanks

I had a chip in my windshield and I don't remember it being caused from anything. I called my insurance company (StateFarm) and said that I had a chip in the windshield that I'm pretty sure it was from a rock of some sort. They scheduled me an appointment with SafeLite and sure enough, they came out a filled the chip... for free! If it is chipped, it can be filled. If it is cracked, I'm pretty sure you're S.O.L. but I'm not a windshield repairman!

should be around 150 - 200, depending on the glass shop.
shop around and look for the little guys, they usually do it for less.

i had mine done for 200 taxes in and he did a quick repair job along the top of the windshield where it was all rusted out and causing my windshield to leak.
plus he came to my house and did it in my driveway.

brand new windshield and he also applied more compound along the top and bottom of my upper windshield trim to help keep the water out of his repair job, just for added protection to prolong the leak.

3 years now, leak free.

I would definitely call you insurance company first and explain the situation to them first.

i did call them but since i dont carry comprehensive coverage, they said that the glass wouldnt be covered. i looked to try and put it on my policy but the highest deductible added $95 to my premium and the lowest deductible doubled my premium.

Ohhh.... sorry to hear that. It was just a thought with my experience. Like I mentioned, I used SafeLite and they were awesome!

I paid $190 for a new windshield which included the installation, I went with Safelite as well, they are a national chain so maybe check them out. They had me in and out in under an hour and were very friendly. I'm going to have them do my other car too.

~$200 is what I've usually paid for someone to come to me (at work, home, wherever) and install it.

Call all the glass shops in your area ... you'll find a lot of variation in price. I wish XJs had the older style of window installation with the slotted rubber gasket. Those were a lot easier for a DIY installation.

Hey there, glass Guy here. One thing to ask the glass Guy that does it is seeing if they will change the mirror bracket. Every time I change mine I use a different bracket that has a slot for the screw. Im not sure why but the ones that come in it aren't so good at holding the mirror on. As for DIY, quadratec has a kit you can buy that has the urethane adhesive and all that. You can use a buddy and piano wire to cut it out. (Not as fast as my cut out knife, but it'll do) its pretty simple, if you can get ahold of new glass . As for my shop, 155$ is what we charge for the window installed
