And why use AWG 4 cable from the firewall to the #14 cylinder head bolt instead of the OEM braided strap.
The factory cables are inadequate for even a stock system. The 4awg kit is rated to 150 amps. I would rather have oversized cables that inadequate factory wires.

I've used 'factory' cables since day one with no problems in my 'stock system'. Or course I don't have non-OEM loads on my electrical system that would mandate 150 Amp capable cables. With a stock Alternator WTF do you need with cables capable of carrying that load.

I've got upgraded cables, and a stock 117a alt. Even with a bunch of acc.

Even 5-90, who to me is like an electrical wizard on this stuff, will tell you even with stock stuff, no external loads, upgrading the mains will be a big improvement. And it was on my first jeep that didn't have anything accessory wise yet when I out his mains kit on. Lights didn't dim when putting windows down, faster crank, small things like that.

I guess I'll just keep plugging along with my bone stock XJ (with OEM cables) that has zero electrical problems.

I was tired of everything dimming when I rolled my window down.

There is "adequate", which is characterized by having no obvious problems, and there is "good", which is better than "adequate".

Very few factories make products that are any more than adequate.

When I was doing the research for cables I found 5-90s website that was outdated and could no longer get them through him. After asking around I did find that XJWonders does the same thing that 5-90 did. I purchased my cables through him a few days ago. 4GA for $103. Thought I would update the thread and let yall know. Hope this helps!
