That is way cool and makes use of wasted space. Love it.

cruiser, I can try to do that tomorrow if I get time. I'll have to play around with it a little. I Might just make a new version of it when I get to it myself. I'll just borrow my little sister's camera for a few hours and take a few good pictures to match the ones in the document you scanned.

maxpower, I think the clear ones would be brighter. The amber probably cuts out some of the light.
Can't remember the cost of them all together cuz I did them a piece at a time. I was still learning which types worked better than others. I'll PM you the links to some of the ones I liked...

I found that the LEDs are good for sidemarkers and running lights, but for the brake and fogs, they weren't nearly bright enough for my liking. I did the all the bulbs on the parking light circuit so I could leave them on with the engine off and not kill the battery. I did all the interior bulbs in LEDs too. The amber did kill some light, but you can put clears in the amber housings or get clear housings with amber bulbs and it works OK. There are a million different LED pods now so be careful how bright the ones you get are - some are way brighter than others. Luckily they are pretty cheap! Don't waste your time on anything for the fogs other than halogen/xenon.

And I fully agree, USA all the way! My jeep has made it clear that I am expected to use only USA parts on it, no matter what the cost, by systematically rejecting anything from overseas within weeks of trying to sneak a cheap part in. I should have known that from the start. Same goes for all my tools including the projectile type!

That's way cool! Much better protected than the ones I did in my bumper! I mounted them low cuz I wanted mine to double as ground lighting so I can see what's under my wheels. I recessed them in the bumper instead of just mounting them on top like many do in the hopes of getting more protection from branches, etc. I never thought of using those gaps around the license plate though - good idea! They make it so much nicer operating backwards in the dark!

I am considering some of those LED strips for the inside of my hatch so when it's open I have overhead lighting. I've seen some pics of that done and it looks really useful... considering the number of things that just fall out into the dirt when I open my hatch at night...

If you could get me those links I'll be happy. I think I'll go down to the local Radio Shack and see what types of lighting they have too. I'll also hit up Advance Auto and see what LED pods they have. Maybe I can make up somethin custom . I'll ask a few of my electrical buddies how to wire stuff together. As soon as I get the cash, I'm gonna start that as my next project. In the mean time, I'm gonna do the turn signal mod so they parking lights blink also. That should set me apart from some of the other XJs around me.

Update: I will be making my own version of the turn signal mod today using what cruiser sent me. That way I can post it on here and people can have a newer copy available to them right off the forum, or they can ask me to e-mail the document right to them. Hopefully it goes well, it seems easy.

The turn signal mod procedure* sorry. I will not be taking credit for the steps, just for making the new document for the people of this forum and for those who read it.

Sulfur, you can smoke them out probably. I've seen it done. I imagine it would be legal since they don't really serve a purpose.
Technically they do serve a purpose. All vehicles manufactured for sale in the USA after January 1,1970 must be equipped with amber front sidemarker lights and amber retroreflectors as well as red rear sidemarker lights and retroreflectors. So technically clear and smoked sidemarkers are illegal in all states but most states will let the clear lights slide as long as the lamps emit an amber light. Hope this helps.

I have the same in my KJ and like you have no issues, heck the sodemarkers in my Xj aren't even hooked up (didn't get the new sockets when I installed the 97 front end) but TECHNICALLY it is illegal. Of course there is a lot on my Jeeps that are technically illegal lol

All I gotta do is get the pictures on my computer. They're on my girlfriend's camera at the moment. She didn't have the USB cord when we took the pictures so I'll have to get them this week.

Haha, duh. Then yes, I'm done with the mod. It came out just as expected. I had a problem where my running light cut out that night when I got home from a buddy's house, but I jiggled the wires around yesterday and let it stay on for a while and It got back to normal, so I don't know what that issue could have been. While I was at it I painted the inside of the headlight bezels black and it came out lookin cool as hell. Yesterday I did a stripe up the center of the hood where the indentation is and that just tied it all together (picture soon). Gotta give credit to my girlfriend too, she painted the driver's side bezel and it came out great. Plus she had to deal with me bein all over my jeep for the day. haha. She'll get used to it. It's a disease, I can't help it.
