Default Cooling Fan 95 Cherokee

So the day started today with when I got to work at 6am and turned my truck off the cooling fan under the radiator cap would not turn off. Thinking that it might turn off in a few minutes I let it run; until i decided that it wasn't planning on turning off. I then unplugged the plug coming from the top drivers side of the fan and it shut off. Since then my voltage meter has been running better and for some reason I feel more power on the acceleration. Why is that? Also what could have caused it too not turn off? My temp is staying the same so it isn't overheating. For a better description of the location of the fan is that it is directly in front of the pulley setup. How necessary is this fan? Right with winter coming and living in the Northeast I don't think there are any hot days coming up in which I will need it but am not sure.

I would say the relay is bad. The fan is mainly for the ac condenser,it also runs when you use the defroster,it is also used for cooling when the temp reaches 217 degrees, but its primary function is ac cond fan. You should fix it.it needs to run when you use your defrost.

Ok Thanks Abovetimberline. I will get a hold of a new relay. How much work is it to change the relay?

It is just a plug in device located next to the fan. Little square relay. It appears the relay for the fan on yours is located in the power dist center, should be labled. Mine is next to the fan. To check if it is the relay you can plug in the fan and if it is still running pull the relay and see of it siops.
