There are some bad caps/bottles that are in circulation right now. The only ones (OEM style) that have been getting a good rap are those being sold by Gerroffroad. He has a page in our vendors section. Good luck, I personally did away with the plastic bottle and went the aluminum route HERE

Have you bled the air out of your system. Closed coolant systems usually need a burp every now and then. Other wise you may have a stuck thermostat. Your cap will only take about 16 PSI before it blows the seal on it. Should be a rubber type o-ring gasket in the cap. HTH.
And I personally love the Waggie, nice choice on the new jeep, I know a few 89's had the D44 rear axle was yours one of the lucky ones?

I think I have two of the bottle/caps oem in my barn. I switched to an open system...so they are just sitting on the shelf.

any overheating? was the coolant boiling when it happens (im assuming yes). if it is, check the system for leaks. they can lower the boiling point of the coolant and thus causing the resevoir to **** out coolant.

Sounds like you got more going on here than meets the eye. Why did you put the new tank on? Was it cracked? I would suggest fully warming up your engine, shutting it off and checking for cold spots on your radiator. Might be time to swap over to the newer style open cooling system.

One other hose related issue. The lower radiator hose has a spring inside to keep it from collapsing when the pump wants to suck too much fluid from it too fast. That hose needs that spring. If you didn't put it back then there is part of your problem.
