Coolant capacity?
How many quarts/liters/gallons of coolant does our 4.0 take? Im sure ive added about 3 gallons over the last two months and every week I look at my coolant bottle its damn near empty. I never see any puddles under the car or drips or anything, completly dry. I have a suspicion that im losing coolant but yeah idk what to be doing. Over the summer I had a bad rad cap and it leaked bad all summer till I got a new cap about 2 months ago. Am I somehow still replenishing it from leaking all summer? This is really frustrating.

1. As mentioned, we absolutely need the year/engine with every post. There are significant differences through the years.
2. You have a problem that you need to resolve IMMEDIATELY.
3. Either you are leaking it or burning it. You need to find out which. Get under the vehicle with a good light and a hot fully pressurized cooling system. See if you can find that leak.
4. If you can't find any leak, then you are likely burning it, meaning you may have a cracked cylinder head, blown head gasket, etc. If you are burning it, know this. You are killing the bearings in your engine. That is why you need to re-read item #2.

Your XJ from the factory came with the "infamous" 0331 cylinder head, which can crack between cylinders 3-4 because of a casting defect.
The #1 symptom of a cracked 0331 head is "unexplained coolant loss".
Here is a link of required reading for you and all 00-01 owners.
