Contact Spray adhesive for headliner
I took the headliner out of my '98 XJ Sport and ordered
. My question is what is everyone preference for spray contact adhesive for this project? I am thinking 3M multipurpose from Lowes but I am open to suggestions. The fabric should be in tomorrow and I would like to get it covered by Wednesday and reinstalled this weekend. I have never recovered a headliner but have covered speaker boxes before. I guess I need something semi forgiving but still will get the job done.
Thanks for the help.

The consensus seems to be 3M 77 is the best. I've seen several videos where this was recommended and used to good effect. The trick seems to be to spray it on both sides and wait until it's tacky before making contact. The best way seems to be to lay the fabric over the liner and fold 1/2 of it back, spray both the fabric and the liner, then fold it back and smooth it out, then do the other 1/2 the same way. Go to a fabric store and choose whatever pattern or color you wish. It's much cheaper that way. Check out "D&E in the Garage" on YouTube. He used an indian blanket pattern that looks super! The fabric just needs to be thin and slightly stretchy so it doesn't wrinkle where it goes around the rear speakers. "Bleepin' Jeep" has a good video also. Many more.
That stuff you ordered seems pricey to me and you don't need foam backed stuff. The foam will dry out just like the original did.

I did a lot of searching and ended up getting this:
. I did the work last spring and it has held up beautifully through Northern VA summer heat.
IIRC, I used material from headliner magic, but I ordered directly from them and not through Amazon since amazon did not list the color I needed.
I also bought on of these: https://www.harborfreight.com/32-oz-...gun-69708.html figuring I'd use it once and get rid of it.
Since you're looking for something quick, this probably won't help but figured I'd throw it out there anyway.

I used the 3m headliner and fabric adhesive 38808 worked great. This has a higher heat resistance ratings higher than the 77 I remember that was one of the deciding factors of using this than the 77.

I used 3M 77 and some medium grey felt from Walmart that looks pretty good in my Comanche. I painted the roof with rustoleum and sprayed some undercoating into the kooks and channels I couldn't reach with a paint brush. I also applied self-sticking foam insulation because I had problems with condensation soaking through my previous liner job.
If you use this btw, don't peel the backing on the edge until you have to, so you have somewhere to grab it. It's very sticky and will rip when you try to pull it back off your hands.

I hope its not too late but I removed all of my headliner fabric and painted the entire foam headliner with a very thick and durable deck restore 6x paint. the grey I got matched perfectly and if you can walk on this stuff it should last forever on my headliner... will post pics if I can find them
