Confused about tie rod tubes between xj and zj.
I was planning on getting a zj v8 tie rod tube from the junk yard so I bought two es3096l (.875" thread) TRE's
But now I have been looking up and see on the zj tie rod one end is not replaceable?
Like this
and the cherokee's is like this
Is this correct??
If so I bought an extra TRE for nothing...
*edit*
Well I know the zj rod is like that now... SO I did get an extra TRE for nothing.
IS THERE A TIE ROD TUBE THE RIGHT LENGTH FOR THE CHEROKEE THAT USES .875" THREAD TRE ON EACH END?
OR WHAT IS THE THICKNESS/LENGTH MAYBE I CAN HAVE A MACHINE SHOP MAKE ME ONE?
But now I have been looking up and see on the zj tie rod one end is not replaceable?

I got a whole new drag link assembly so I cant use the other tre at the pitman.
It would be a real hassle to return it.
I really dont want to buy a new zj tie rod grrr
I'm gonna see what a local machine shop will charge me for a 1.25 x .25 7/8-18 female threaded piece of dom tubing the length I need, 35" I think.

1) The ES3096 you already have are 22MM-1.5 LH threads, not 7/8"-18.
2) You will have tie rod ends with left hand threads on both ends of the adjuster so you won't be able to adjust toe-in.

You do not have to replace the drag link. It's exactly the same as the one on an XJ.
The tie rod off the v8 zj is thicker and solid. The bar and passenger TRE are built as one piece. The adjusting sleeve and driver TRE are separate.
ES2079S Adjusting Sleve
ES3096L Short Tie Rod End
DS1312 Long Tie Rod End (aka the rod w/ TRE)

If you get the ZJ rod from a JY like I did, you can save the TRE and reuse it if you are careful when you take the rod off. The "boots" are replaceable, just cut off the old one and replace it with a new one. Energy suspension sells them (part # 9.13101R).
