computer code 54?

Question computer code 54?

so i was drivin at 65....then my rpms just dropped to zero and i just pulled off to the side and it wouldnt restart.......my computer threw the code 54......54 No sync pickup signal during engine rotation (turbo only)
OR
54 Internal logic module fault ('84 turbo only) - or camshaft sensor/distributor timing

i have a 91......ive replaced the coil and the map sensor....u guys have any clue?

Code 54 on obd-1 systems actually refers to no camshaft signal detected during engine cranking. Sounds like Crank position sensor going out.

Question

ya....it cranks allll day and there is no spark from the coil....ive replaced the coild and the map sensor.....and i replaced the cps a few moths ago when it was runnin......so i think my guess is the camshaft sensor i have an extra one.....would the bad cam make it so there is no spark from the coil?

54 can be caused by the cam sensor.

If you have an extra one, install it. Only way to know............

If that don't work see if you have a warranty on the crank sensor.

a 90 to 95 jeep 4.0 code 54 is the distributor 96 to 99 maybe later is the camshaft signal. My wife's 92 jeep 4.0 set the 54 and I replace the distributor and it started right up. You'll find this in the book.
