I've got a 90 cherokee with the inline 6 and it wan't crank without starting fluid. My mechanic/roommate says it needs a computer. I'm gonna grab one out of a "pull a part" because i'm cheap like that. . My question is are there any other years compatible with a 90 because with my luck they'll have every year but mine?

IIRC, 90 and back were all Renix system. Then 91-96 is OBD I. 97+ is OBD II.

But Diesel is VERY right... Renix and OBD I are different and are not compatible.

 

Not all 90 and back are Renix. 84-86 are AMC systems. Renix only covers 87-90.

 

How can I look at mine and tell? Can I go off the VIN?

 

How can you tell what? If it is a Renix system? If your XJ is a 90 model then it is a Renix.

 

Ok so if I can find a computer out of an 87-90 then I should be good to go. Do these have to be programmed or should this be a plug and play kinda thing?
