Default Compressor bracket/fan hub bearing

Spent the afternoon removing the old/installing the new bracket/hub bearing......hard to believe the old one was howling/squealing (on cold mornings) with only 72k miles.

Well...let's hear it. Give us a tutorial on how you did it and where you got the bearing.

Kiddo's heading back to Oklahoma 2maro so kinda on a short fuse......got bent over by the stealership for the a/c bracket/hub bearing assembly ($317). Talk about being boinked without Vasoline.

Remove air filter box
Drained cooling system (bottom hose removed from water pump)
Remove:
battery and it's tray
both heater hoses from front of motor
top rad hose (both ends)
alternator and it's bracket
Separate compressor from it's bracket (4 bolts)
Remove old compressor bracket (4 bolts, 2 in head, 1 in block and 1 thru the cam/chain cover)

While 1 person held the compressor up slightly, the other bolted in the new bracket/hub bearing unit. Reversed from there re-installing what was removed. Took us about 4 hours start-2-finish. Low 20's here 2maro AM......hope there's no howl/squeal.

Thanks for the write-up and photos.

Is that part number on the bottom of the bracket the assembly part number or a casting number?

Must be a casting number.....the part number on the box/invoice is 35011002.

The parts dept computer showed two different brackets so the VIN is needed to determine which unit.

Boy, there would be a " howl/squeal." Here even if the new bearing is fine.

Sorry to hear that DJB...We don't all have the time and resources to figure out how to get at bearings like that. Must be doable. At that price I would NEED to gamble on a JY part...if I could! Hope that serves you well. (looks pretty spiffy!)

I'm not believing this.......23*F this AM, fired it up and howl/squeal like a banshee. Pulled the distributor and the shaft was extremely tight. Hopefully no howl/squeal in the AM. Oh well, guess I'm not very good at diagnosing.

That bearing can be pressed out its a double bearing and the race can't be pressed out without destroying it. I think I still have the one I have ill take some pic to show what I mean.

A few years back I was going over an ancient Case 310 track loader, (4-cyl. gas).

Once cranking it I did a double-take as I saw the dizy start to spin. Right out of the Exorcist! What the #*#*? Figured out pretty quick waz the shaft binding.

Shoot! Maybe get your old one nice and clean and E-bay it along with your story. If they are THAT spendy, maybe you can re-coop a bit?

I took a look. You might get $30-$50?
