Anyone have any ideas for colder ac? I know its winter but florida doesnt understand that concept yet.... But is there any ways to make it colder? I hear some people wrap their lines in insulation and the accumulators but i also hear that is bad for the system. Then i hear people putting heater valves in their systems as well. ALSO when people switched to the dual electric fan setup or something that pulls more air it also results in colder ac as well. What else is there? I do have a small leak in my system but i check it monthly as its very slow and only need to top it off every 8 months with gauges and everything so i dont overcharge or undercharge my system. Also i really feel window tint with uv protection is very under rated and insulating your cabin as well can result in staying cooler for longer and makes it feel colder, I like to stay in my jeep and listen to my music with the ac blasting and once i put my sunshade up my ac feels so much cooler after to the point i need to turn it to 2 just to not freeze myself. Also kinda funny when theres a waterfall coming from my jeep basically from the condensation on the system.

 

That water is supposed to be there. It means the system is working and the condenser coil, called that because of condensate on it, is working. One thing you can do is shut off the hot water going to your heater core. Older XJs had this. Takes all the heat out of the dash area. Make sure you are recirculating air in the cabin on Max AC

 

Ever evacuated it and recharged it?

 

Actually now that you said this i just done it again lol no change in pressures and everything is where theyre supposed to be and feels the same. Maybe i just have to much cracks letting air in because it does get cold but it works hard to stay cool

Yes, and be sure to charge in the correct amount of refrigerant by weight. R134 systems are more sensitive to charge level than the old R12 setup.

Air in the system or too much oil will also reduce efficiency.

 

And a very light tint on your windows can help a ton.

 

^^^ low-tech....but a true statement...and depending on the year... the XJ has at least 10 separate pieces of glass that the sun's rays can get into the interior with no resistance when you're "sans-tint".
Being a former AZ desert rat, I can really attest to that statement.

Everything else stated about the system itself I agree with too...but the low-tech idea certainly could help as well once you get the correct amount of charge in the system and verify that you don't have any leaks.
