Okay i just found the TCU and for my year xj its right above gas pedal on DRIVERS SIDE. I took the connector out and it shifted manuely great, I put back the connector and stick in drive and from first gear to second does same thing so its not my transmission then, it would be the TCU correct?
Well I'll be dammed. Technically if it shifts fine manually and doesn't "slip" at all under load then ur tranny should be OK.
Like I said most of my transmission work was back in the day but the basic workings still remain the same EXCEPT for all the electronics ( way to much crap for not a whole lot of good).
I would leave it disconnected for a little while and drive it just to see if everything is as it should be shifting wise. Nice clean shifts and give it some gas so you can guage or rule out that the transmission internally is doing ITS job.
I don't mean to post what I don't know so I stuck to what I do know. The only thing that stayed in my mind was the condition of the fluid when you changed it and the milage.

Okay Finally got time to head to the junkyard and got 2 TCU/TCM for 30$. Right as soon as I got them to the jeep I Put one in and it has been driving Great!. Now im just going to wait till the Engine cools off and Drive it cold and see how she does. Hope this helps Anyone else who has a similar problem. ALSO the numbers on the TCU/TCM did not match the Orginal one off mine But the Cherokee's I pulled them off were the same year. So I'm pretty sure the numbers on the TCU/TCM Do not matter
