Ok just thought I would run this by you guys... Here's what I was thinking...Setup the standard K&N cone filts with a bracket like what rusty's sells to accomodate the vacume hoses and hold the gone in place and use the existing breather tube to the TB..Fab a box that covers it and then mount a small electric fan at the entry where the stock has a tube at to pull in air..What do you guys think about this idea? Good or bad? It would enclose the cone on the sides to help reduce heat and pull cold air in directly to the filter adding some good clean cold air..What's yalls thoughts? I hope I described it good enough..

Creative thinking...a small fan definitely could not hurt anything and since there isn't much that you can with cold airs in an XJ then i would go for it. If my XJ wasn't my only means of transportation, i always said i would remove the front left headlight and housing to have direct air into my K&N. Depends on your situation. Good luck!

you can pull a computer fan out of the back and trim it and it should be the right size. i was actually thinking about doing the same thing.

Yeah I got to thinking about how at my old job we would add intake fans to help bring in cool air so I thought hmm help bring in air to the air cleaner might just help things run a tad better..I might just have to mock something up after I get back from my weekend outing and see how it works.. I have the rusty's tube to mount a K&N filter to it and it sounds sweet but man some cold air sure wouldn't hurt..And some sort of an enclosure sure could help reduce hot air..After all cold air is better anyways..Not sure how it would work out if it got wet though..

Yeah once I get some ideas on paper and mocked up and get it working I'll do a writeup and post my outcome..Should be interesting to see how it works..I am going to add a temp sensor to get a before and after reading to see if there is a significant temp change..

One issue you're going to run into is a lack of CFM.... What you're doing is a good idea, but you'd probably get better airflow just from a tube that came out of the engine bay behind the bumper or somthing, because a fan is going to slow the airflow down under acceleration because it won't be able to push as many cubic feet per minute, as the motor is taking in... But I could be wrong, so why not go for it?

Yeah I figure the fan is cheap enough to at least try it out..I was thinking about the CFM issue aswell..My theory was to mount the fan on the side where you won't have air force and have a tube to the front to help bring in air sa well..The fan is basically for pulling air from the side and aid in cooling the air down more.. whether it works or not I am not sure only testing will truly tell..

Another idea I am thinking about after that snorkel thread is taking the concept a different direction..Make a mount that mounts to the side of the fender on the upper part to clear the fenders better and has a scoop type opening that faces forward and has a tube that runs to the air box...basically creating a forced air intake on the side and would be easier to make over putting one on the hood..Well at least for me..Then you could have vents for heat dissipation on the hood..Hmm so many ideas ....

i thought about taking a vacuum cleaner nose...the flat rectangular ones...and mounting it between the radiator and the driver side headlight and connecting a hose. That along with a fan could really improve the amount of air.
