Spacers are cheaper obviously, that's just about their only advantage. Disadvantages are spacers (bigger ones anyways) also make it easier to unseat a coil when your suspension is flexing and they put more stress on your springs and they will sag faster.
I run a half inch spacer on mine, and its fine.

how do they put more stress on your springs? they aren't doing anything but moving the seat down, the spring still sits the same and it acts the same. the only extra stress is from the driver trying to go in more places then before

The spring is allowed to compress more. If it helps, imagine a rig with stock springs and super long spacers, when the axle moves up the springs runs out of compression much faster than if there was no spacer there.
Its not a enormous deal but your springs will wear out faster if you flex it at all.

dont see the point in using spacers, coils are not very pricey.
and i really dont see the point of combining the two. i.e. a 3"coil with a 2" spacer....a 5" coil is barely more than the 3" coil...
but, to each his own.

Im asking because I'm going to buy a 2" lift today and some kits come with a 2" spacer to add to your stock coil and some come with a 2" lift coil. Obviously the spacer is less expensive but I'm wondering with such a small lift would it really make that big of a difference or if I should spend a little more for the coil.
