Default Code P0705

I have a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country w/ 4.0L eng and 4sp A/T. The service engine light is on throwing a code of P0705. I know it's the neutral safety switch and is causing my back up lights to not come on.

My question is whether that could also cause it to not shift into overdrive. Transmission is very solid and tight in all other gears, but won't even consider going into O/D.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Yes, the NSS can affect overdrive operation.

Try "refurbishing" your NSS. Here is a link that contains a procedure.

Default Worked!

Thank you for your reply! I am very much a novice at working on anything w/ my car, but thought it was well worth a try to save $275 on a new NSS.

I followed the directions and it took much longer than it should have because of my own errors, but I got it fixed and now the back up lights work as well as overdrive.

Thank you again.

James

Currently in the process of doing this myself. I bought a brand new nss on ebay for $40. I wasn't about to blow that much money on one of those.
I just can't get my old one off. I'm going to pb blast the **** out of it later.
but good luck with yours, hope it works out
