code p0340 help and questions please!
My xj threw the p0340 code tonight I noticed the CEL when I got in my jeep after it was running on remote start for about 10 min... I havnt noticed any power loss any rough idle or missfire, any bad symptoms. So im not quite sure where to start I know the code is camshaft position sensor. But thats all I know can you all help me out?? Thanks. Justin

Also we had a pretty good snow storm last night here in md and long story short my xj took a spin into a ditch went up on two passenger side wheels and back down on all fours...no body damage thank goodness, I cant roll like that. But is it possible wires connected to the CPS got jarred and loose? Where is it located in the xjs does anyone have a diagram?

So ive done some research and come up with the conclusion it could be the cam shaft or crank shaft position sensor. ..but im still having no bad symptoms. Other than one time it took longer to crank over than usual. Besides that it idles great and drives like normal im planning on replacing something tomorrow so any other info on this issue would be so helpful

A code P0340 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
*A wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken/flaky (first thing on the suspect list)
*The camshaft position sensor OR crankshaft position sensor may have failed (or is just starting to fail)
*PCM may have failed (least likely, especially in your case with no symptoms)
Here are some things to try:
*Visually inspect all the wiring and connectors in both of the circuits; repair as required; clean connectors with electrical contact cleaner
*Test the camshaft position sensor
*Test the crankshaft position sensor
------------------------------------------------------------
With having no symptoms (the extended crank is most likely a check valve on the fuel pump; not related), I'd start by clearing the code, disconnecting both cam and crank sensors, cleaning the connectors with a healthy spray of electrical contact cleaner (widely available at any parts store; even Walmart) reconnecting and see if the CEL/code returns. It could be a simple connectivity issue.
Good luck and keep us updated!

So ive replaced my cam and crankshaft position sensors. ..both mopar. And the issue went away for awhile then I threw the code after a hard start yesterday...my only symptom is a weak start...weaker than normal. Any ideas of what else could set it off? A weak battery? starter slowly going bad?

For your new problem, the strategy for a check engine light is always the same. Pull the code. Post the exact code here for comment. Anything less than pulling the code is pure guesswork.
And in tandem while you are pulling the code, have your battery "load tested" at a parts store (free) and clean all battery post/cable connections until shiny.
