Who read the code and what kind of tool did they use to read it?

A 2000 should have the OBD2 system - codes should be P followed by 4 digits.
Turn the key to ON (not start), then turn it back to OFF, back to ON and repeat this 3-5 times and you should see the engine codes display on your ODO followed by "Done". If you have a tripometer button, you may have to hold it while turning the key from off to on.
You'll need a proper scan tool to clear the code, but you can go to your local parts store and they'll read your codes and clear them if you ask. You can buy your own ODB2 scan tool and it doesn't cost too much as well.
