Default Clunk when braking

Hey folks. I have noticed a pretty serious clunk when braking and coming to a stop. It seems as though it is coming from the front of the vehicle but it is hard to tell. It does not do this when I am in 4 wheel drive. Any ideas? Does tranny mounts or transfer case mount seem right?
Thanks

Default Clunkin noise

I have been dealing with the same problem with my XJ. Everytime I go to brake, or if I am going slow speeds I hear noises. I have greased every greasable part, still clickin noises...if you don't have any play in your u-joints..check your brake pads...if the retainer springs are bad, or broken, it will allow your pads to move around in the caliper, making all sorts of racket..Since this is my first Jeep since my 03 Liberty, and my first with all these miles, and minor issues, I'm learning all this stuff as I go...just figured I'd give a hopefully easy answer...retainer clips are a $1.29 for one side at Napa..

Check your control arm bolts make sure they are nice and tight and that the lowers are not moving back and forth

Def. check the U-joints. Many times being in 4wd the drivetrain keeps pressure on the u's, esp. the front axle shaft ones. If none of this is the issue, check the caliper bolts. I had one strip out and it let the caliper move slightly while braking making a decent clunk sound.

Sounds like a U-joint to me!

You might also want to check your slipyoke. I know that it needs lots of grease under the rubber boot in order for it to not make a big clunking noise when you're starting from a stop or stopping, at least that's what mine was doing before I re-greased it.
