Cleaning inside 96xj taillight lenses.
Is there any way to separate the two parts of the lens for cleaning? (The outside half and the inside half have some glue holding the two desperate parts together) I want to clean them bc it's a little dusty/moldy in there and the don't look great. I really don't want to clean them in one part b/c I don't want the water to stay inside. Let me know. Thanks!

I just filled with soap and water. Shook it around a bit and rinsed tit out hen let it sit in the direct sun for a couple hours. I didn't get any fogging or left over water from it.

Normal cycle with heated dry option. On top shelf. I sprayed then down with Clorox before I started it.

The taillights for the "old-style" (84-96) are about $45 a piece. In general parts for the "new style" xj's are typically more expensive. I don't know if I like the "new" or "old" style xj's better... The older ones are easier to work on from what i hear...

You think I'm the only one who's tried this? Others probably have but I searched around online for "putting tail light lenses in dishwasher" and only very irrelevant stuff came up. Who knows, maybe they'll come out great! They weren't terribly dirty, they just seemed a little dusty and overall "old" looking.

I have an 88 XJ and did kinda like what PNWjeeper posted except instead of soap I used Purple Power industrial strength cleaner/degreaser. Saturate inside & out and let sit in the shade about 15+ minute. Use high pressure water hose to rinse, then repeat a few more times. Shake out as much water as you can then set out in direct sun until dry. Like PNWjeeper I had no leftover water or fogging and Lenses look like new.
