I just bought a 1995 Jeep Cherokee. In the ceiling just above the mirror there is a small panel (about 3 by 5 inches) with what looks like a blue light in it with a circuit board behind it. The panel is held in by two screws. Anyone have an idea what this is?

Keyless entry? Being I don't have the keyless key may just unplug the module or see if the local Jeep dealer can get me a new key?

Blue eyes in ceiling???Keyless entry. Prior to 1997 the remotes were infrared and not radio. If you don't have the keyfob remote it's actually less effort and cheaper to just get an aftermarket unit than to try and hobble that useless IR junk back together. Plus you might get remote start, too!

haha, thanks for asking this question i am a newb to the jeeps and after ripping off the rest of my headliner and putting bedliner and paint on it i was confused thought maybe it was for a garage door opener or something. since were on the topic of "wtf is this" the right hand side of the dash (96 xj) looks almost like theres another caution/advisory light panel, only thing i can think of is on a more well equipped jeep it was for a door ajar indication or 4wd indicator? or a gear indicator on an auto? i tried to look it up but i cant seem to find anything, and never a picture of it illuminated. thanks

99% of xjs have nothing there. The clock was also an option. If it is there and doesn't work it can just be a bad bulb
looked like the previous owners tried to glue something over it as well but its gone now.
