I see that the steering stabilizer prices are quite varied, from 40 bucks on up. So, what would be a good choice for a Jeep that never leaves the road ?? I'm not into off-road stuff, except when I get stuck in the snow in my yard...
If your Jeep is stock and you keep it on the pavement, just get a stock replacement by Monroe or the like. That is, unless you enjoy spending money. Some people will say you don't even need it.

I like to upgrade the stabilizer. It can help with moderately worn front end parts (which virtually all of us have with vintage XJs) and can reduce bump steer.
For not much more money than an OEM style stabilizer, ($20 or so more) you can get a beefy stabilizer like a Rancho. It's well worth it.

I use the Rancho and don't know if it is any better than stock but it does do a very good job. The one that on there when I bought the Jeep was leaking badly when I replaced it.
IMHO they cover up problems in the front end when something is worn badly.

The one on rockauto by Moog that I got was like $40 and was much beefier than stock, even though it was an OEM replacement. Highly recommended.

I recently replaced all the tie rods in my Jeep. The replacement drag link (center link) did not have the mounting post for the steering stabilizer like the old one did. Since others had suggested that the stabilizer is not necessary, I just drove around for a couple days without it.
I found it to be jumpy and fidgity to drive and the steering was very loose feeling...responding to the smallest of bumps. It was driveable but did not feel 'solid'.
I went to the hardware store and put together some bolts and nuts to make a post to mount the stabilizer to the drag link. With the shock in place, the steering feels much better and safe. I might eventually get a stiffer shock to tighten it up even more.
The stabilizer from Autozone was from Monroe and cost $30. Pretty hefty for being only $30 and it also came with new hardware.
