cherokees stalling
i have a 96 and 98 cherokee both completely stock, the 96 cherokee stalls when i come to a stop or low idle so i have to keep my foot on the gas and brake when i stop to keep it running and now my 98 is starting to do it. it doesn't sputter or anything it just dies and will start right back and run fine. could someone please help?
Have you done any diagnostics?
Does it do it while in gear and not moving? Can you put it in drive and stand on the brake after it stalls and you restart?
There are a few things it could be, probably an IAC though.

One of THE most common causes of stalling on the 4.0 is a marginal battery.
And to head you off at the pass, yes...you can have a battery that is strong enough to start the engine, but marginal enough to give the engine management system fits. And that creates stalling. I answer 2-3 threads on this every week.
Have the battery load tested. That is the ONLY conclusive way of determining battery condition. Any parts store will do this for you for free.
Plenty of time to ponder more complex possibilities, but only after battery is ruled in or out.

Mine was doing the same thing sure enough it was the IAC! easy to clean with a little break cleaner on a rag that carbon build up should come right off. JUst dont move that move or turn that pin atleast thats what I heard! But now I have a problem with my TPS but yea start with your cleaning your IAC!! Good Luck
