check tire air pressures, low pressure will cause that (12-15psi) highway driving should be around 35-40psi

ANSWER ME THIS

your sig says 3.5" re lift and 2" spacers.

so you have a 5.5" (probably more with new springs) on stock upper control arms and shortarms made for a shorter lift?

that right there is your problem, along with the stock steering that should have been tossed a couple inches ago

hunter alignment racks align the car to stock specifications. this car is lifted with massive tires. just because the screen is green doesn't mean youre getting the right work done. itld be smart to take it to someone who know's what theyre doing. in my opinion track bar, tie rods and steering box are going to screw you up the most. so before you do any investing on new parts. make sure everything is snug and straight. like previously noted. somebody who doesnt just go by a green screen. someone who knows numbers and angles

Think about it ...with a 6 inch lift the stock steering will be all wrong.
Even just putting on a 1' drop still leaves you 5" off stock. I dont see what track bar you have but the track bar and the steering have to match up at the same angle. So if you put a drop on the pitman you have to drop the track bar the same. The flatter the angle the less bump steer you will have. For that much lift you should have a track bar drop bracket and over the knuckle steering to have that stock feel.

[QUOTE=RENIXBEAST;529390]I was wondering about the front axle housing maybe being bent. I assumed the alignment shop would have told me if it was bent but who knows. I know not all cherokee's are crap but this has been the worse lifted vehicle I've owned. It's awesome off-road, nothing even compares but on the road its just plain scary.[/QUOTE

So you had an alignment shop do the aligning. I have yet to find a shop in over 15 years of lifted jeeps that can set the alignment correctly. Yeah they can do the toe, the easy part, but they wont do the catser. Even if they do they set it to STOCK spec, which in your case would be 3-5 degrees off. this is why you don't track straight. Check you caster i'll bet it way off. there is a trade off either your front pinion is correct or your caster, the goal is to adjust it to a happey medium between the 2.

Are you at 6" on short arms? Even with adjustable you'll never get it right. you nee Control arm drops or long arms.

if he is running stock lca's and uca's with regular steering and stock trac-bar theres the problem plus if you request certain measurements at alignment shops they dont pay attention to the green or red because if you want a certain reading they can go by that...

Dude! I feel your pain and right now I'm dealing with multiple problems but I actually like it.

Between this forum and hands on problem solving I'm really getting to know the Jeep well. To He** with the money, banks are the last place to put cash, you'll never see a hurse pulling a u-haul to the cemetary, when I'm done this Jeep is gonna be a lean mean mudding machine!!!!

Do what I do, I get some beer, turn on some tunes, and invite my useless neighbors over so I can pick on them while they watch me work........It's always a good laugh.

Mike

At 6" as he says. he is beyond, where caster shims will help. He's on stock arms, from what I can tell. The control arms are almost verticle and the caster will be off by almost 10 degrees, shims can only correct for 3-5. beyond that he has all the other issues you run into trying to do a lift on the cheap. this is not an XJ problem, Its a BUILDER problem.

dude, seriously you have a 89. Do you know of anything made in 89 that's in tip top condition? oh besides a 21 year old chick in the mall with work out pants. All joking aside, I've had over 15 cars and can say that my 94 is always a sure start.

how hard will it be for you to come back to stock height or maybe just down to 3"? are your tires gonna rub? i'm a military mechanic and i've always known for sure that, if all else fails, go back to the beginning... my 2 cents.
