Default Cherokee transmission problem

Okay so the other day my 1999 Cherokee 2WD Automatic misfired. I now have a check engine light, but I don't know the code. I am taking it to a shop soon. My jeep starts fine now and everything seems okay when its idling, but when driving on the road it doesn't want to shift and runs at high rpms. Any clue what my problem is? Maybe transmission problem or what? Also this happened after I washed the engine bay with a water hose, but it wasn't right away it was later that night that I started having issues.

Also I checked the transmission fluid level and it appeared okay. The jeep only has 97,000 miles on it too.

I had the same problem. Turned out to be a fuse (under the hood). Hope thats all yours is. Cheap, easy fix.

Could be the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). It's pretty well-known that they don't like water.

Do you know which fuse and where it was located?

Under the hood, passenger side on my 01. Would assume a 99 would be the same. Dont recall the slot or fuse type (been awhile), just pulled fuses until I found one that was bad.

TPS absolutely hates water and is essential to your transmission computer's shifting decisions. Classic description of a TPS failure.

Before doing anything, get the code read! If it ends up being a TPS code, NAPA Echlin brand or Mopar is recommended. If you get an AutoZone or similar you will make very frequent use of that lifetime warranty...
