cherokee teeth puller! arrg. signals
Hello ya'll.
96 xj, 2 dr, ax15 231, 31s on stock lift, hacked to hell. hell ya. (97+wiring i think)
I have been following cherokee forum for a while now, about 6 months and finally came around to register. lol ya know you drive an xj when the body panelling of jy xjs is better then yours.
anyhow. I have been havin this wierd electrical gremlin for a little while now, until recently it got real bad!
I got this radio from the local hockshop, and bought the wiring harness connector dealy for it so as to not screw with original wiring. I install the radio and whalla it works great. couple of months down the road I realize that when I turn my ignition off, the blower motor for the fan keeps going and the radio turns itself back on. but if I select "OFF" for the temp control, the blower and radio go out.
I never fixed this problem cause it wasn't killing my battery, until a couple of days ago (when I got my wisdom teeth taken out), my signal lights crapped out. 4 ways don't work either. when I operate the signal lever all I get is a buzzing noise from under the dash, which turns out to be a blue relay.
here is what I have tried.
1. rewire connector under air box
2. taking apart and cleaning the signal switch (was filthy)
3. replace relay with two others
the buzzing has become less intense but I still don't have signals. when I turn on the headlights, all lights come on as normal.
I will buy a six pack for the person that solves this problem for me.
Ryan

nah I didn't change my bulbs yet, I figured they would be okay, cause that is something I check on a regular basis, when the signals quit, they all quit at the same time and all I got was this buzzing coming from a blue relay.

It could very well be one of the bulbs itself has shorted itself out, the socket is shorted, or the filament in the bulbs has grounded iself to either the other filament or the bulb housing. the front turn/parking lights are either 1157 or 3157 and have been known to cause this problem.

okay I checked the bulbs and sockets (god damn rusty phillips screws), yea they were corroded and on bulb had a filament laying on the other, so I sand papered the whole deal and put in new bulbs, but no dice. I cleaned the turn signal switch and the ignition switch today too, no dice.
HOWEVER I noticed that when I jiggle the fuse box (I loosened it) the buzzing relay buzzes in rythem with my jiggling. LOL it appears I have to rip off the fuse box. I remember something about the comanches used to leak clutch (DOT3) fluid onto the fuse box, but my little dinglecock thingy is dry at the firewall. I think this would also diagnose why my heater and radio like to stay on.
Help me out here boys, I'm serious about that 6 pack.

did you happen to check the fuses?
sounds like you have wires shorted to me.........
if your fuse box is corroded there is a very strong chance that there is mutiple shorts behind your fuse box(or just one?). that may cause them to get power even when the ign is off and might be bleeding off into eachother?....im a low volt electrician so im just brain storming here
i dont drink....so no need for the six pack if that helps ya!

I have a 99 doing a lot of the same stuff. I found an ***** load of threads on simular issues, but no real answers.I have been having the heater stay on after the key is off.Yesterday...Im parked in the road with the 4 ways on,after a couple minutes I look out and the turn signal lights are on...but not blinking.I start it and the hit blinker...it comes on but doesnt blink. 20 minutes latter and everythings fine.My plan of attack is to go through ALL the grounds. Clean them and re-attach. Ill let you know it turns out. J ust E xpect E lectrical P roblems. An honest acronym!!

Inside the relay block, behind the blue relay/combo flasher there is a bunch of wires so I jumped the violet/red with the red/white and my signals miraculously work again . WOOHOO!! man truck is back in action. look out kiddies.
