Default Cherokee starts then dies

Howdy folks -

I have a dead battery so I'm using a jump pack.

My Cherokee will start, but I have to apply gas or it will stall.

I know my battery is dead, but once it is running it is no longer a battery issue, correct? (or is my dead battery still causing me problems even after it turns over?)

What should I look at next? I've searched and found that I should check the fuel pressure at the rail, but I have no idea what this means.

1999 Limited. 4.0L 4x4

Thanks as always.

fuel treatment sir.

get the moisture out of the fuel system,, "dry-gas" or equivalent into the tank.

swap out fuel filter next.

check codes...see whats stored.

Throttle body clean?

etc. etc.

hope it helps.

It was running totally fine before the battery died, that's why I'm curious as to why the fuel system would be acting up now.

Does the battery have any impact on vehicle operation once it starts?

Yes. Your battery CAN be so dead that it isn't being charged at idle. Hence you gassing it, making a bigger charge from the alternator, and it running. Get a new battery.

I think it's pretty darn dead. I left an interior light on during sub-zero temps.

So a REALLY DEAD battery can cause the car to stall even if I get it jump started?

The battery is almost ASSUREDLY the problem here.

A marginal battery gives the engine management system fits, creating a stalling condition.

Get a new battery!

I had no idea a battery could cause this much of a fit after startup.

In the Cherokee Forum, you learn something new every day.

New battery = problem solved.
