Cherokee rear trunk lock latch stuck!!
Getting ready to leave in the morning on a trip... packing and the trunk wont close.. stuck in the locked position...
took it all apart and found this....
I cant see anywhere where it would screw in...
there is a clip... but it wouldnt really pull it in the right dierection to open...
anyone familiar with the rear door?

It goes in that gold colored piece. Looks like it is mangled. Here is video. Shot is not the best but give you a better idea of what that gold colored piece should look like.

Thinking the part I circled should be more in front of the rod. Also zip tie the rod at the top to keep it from sliding down.

Thats awesome guys thank you.
unfortunately... or maybe fortunately... like an idiot I shut the trunk lid..
but on the bright side, it's closed.
I will just use the side doors and dig into it when we get back...
thanks all.

No prob. It's a little late now but what happens is the mechanism dries out then with the increased resistance, self destructs. When repaired give it a shot of white grease so it lasts a while.

Got back this afternoon and took it apart.
I broke off the clip and welded a 1/4-20 nut on the pivot pin.
I also cut the rod and welded a 1/4-20 stud to it.
works brilliantly. kinda the way Jeep shoulda/coulda ..
hopefully this will help someone else in the future.
