Default Cherokee Questions

Whats up,new here. Im thinking about getting a cherokee for my first truck. I am thinking about doin a 3inch lift (not body) or a 4.5,I was wondering if i do the 4.5 inch lift will i need longer brake lines? Also what kind of gas mileages do cherokees get? Also how big of tires can i fit with a 3inch without cutting anything? Thanks

Welcome!

You'll need new brakelines with a 3" lift if you plan on wheelin' it.

You cannot do a bodylift on an XJ, it's a unibody and does not have a frame.

31's will just barely fit.

im sorry but i have to laugh, your asking about tire sizes and lifts and then ask about the fuel mileage...you need to find out what size tires your gonna use before you ask how bad the tires are gonna make your fuel mileage
im not being a dik, im just saying you may find someone with the lift and tire size you want then you can get a real mileage out of them

The amount of lift you pick will depend on how you want your jeep to look, ride and what type of wheeling you plan on doing...Also with a 3" lift I wouldn't go much bigger then 30's on a 4.5" lift 32's after those sizes trimming of the fenders will happen and also you will need proper bump stops..

Here's a good tip get the amount of lift you want now don't go small thinking eventually you will go bigger as you will be wasting money. I went he small route first knowing darn good and well I wanted more and well wasted money on lift parts I didn't keep long. So my advice decide how big you want to go and look at others lift setups in the sticky thread and decide how much lift you want and need..

Also buy this book... The Jeep Cherokee Builders guide... Runs about $20 shipped and IMHO a must have for anyone wanting to lift and modify an XJ. Link below.

I was in the same boat as you when i got my cherokee a bit more then a month ago, went with the Rubicon Express 3.5" super ride lift, has everything needed (except shocks) but is suppose to be one of the best kits for a cherokee, i got it last week and time depending will try to put it on tomorrow. Said to be able to get 31" tires with no cutting

And you can but the bumpstops are pretty critical for those times you really stuff the tires into the fenderwells.
