He's selling it because it's not a good daily driver as set up. He says that in the narrative of the ad. He also states he's reluctantly selling the XJ. That makes negotiating more difficult.
First, while I hate to be a wet blanket, I'm something of a realist and I've bought plenty of vehicles so far. For $3500 on a 1992, it better be VERY low mileage and clean as showroom, or close to it. You can get 1999s for $3000 or so now. He's trying to get his money back for the lift kit, wheels & tires, etc. Especially at 187,000, I don't think it's worth more than $2000 or so. Once you put accessories into a vehicle, it doesn't push up the book value. At times, it may reduce it. Off roading accessories, unless obviously for show, fall into this category as they infer abuse.
Pictures by themselves make things look much nicer than they are. He took them far enough away to not show if there are any rust bubbles, etc. He also only noted in the narrative what he added to the XJ, which is where he gets his asking price from.
Sorry, my friend.....my gut tells me to look elsewhere. My gut is seldom wrong.

Ditto. Find another in the right price range that maybe hasn't had the modifications, take the cash you save and do your own modifications to your liking. Re: offroading, my "mostly" stock XJ gets me where I need to be. I'm not hardcore by any stretch, but she gets me back to deer camp on old, washed out, unmaintained farm roads (and worse). Just trying to provide reference since you're looking for your first.

A good dailer driver need some defining. To me a good DD XJ, mean it goes down the highway without DW and doesn't break-down. IF gas mileage part of Good DD, XJ not for you, especially with 33 tires. yeah some people get 18+ but MOST with tire bigger than 31 get from 10 to 15 MPG. IF good brakes are part of a good DD, then XJ not for you, again big tires make already marginal brakes, iffy.

Does any one know what i should do to fix this problem? When i put it on reverse it grinds and is getting hard to put it in. The rest of the gears are shifting nice, but reverse in the morning when i first drive it is just fine. I don't know if i need to change my trans fluid, or transfer case fluid to fix this. Any advice? Thank you very much.
I disagree. You could get a stock 92 for $2000 maybe, but if you want to lift it then that's going to be 1500 worth of parts in it so whats the point. And I don't see many clean lifted Cherokees with low miles under 3000 on my Craigslist. Idk that's just me.
well iv talked him down to 2800 witch is not bad ,its kinda hard to find a nice one with low km it has 180km witch is not bad

if your looking for a good dd and wheeler. id start with a stocker, and then build it up to your own liking.
best thing to trust is a stocker with absolutely nothing modded.
