Hey Guys,
I have a 1996 XJ that refuses to start.
I was wheeling one day when all of a suddent the engine just shut off but the electrical remained on. It started right up after that.
The next week or so i was doing the same thing when the engine shut off. This time it wouldnt turn back on. It sat in my driveway for about three months when one day I was messin around with the motor and it started. Had no clue what I did but it started.
About a year later I was drivin up in the snow when all of a sudden...the same thing happened. Engine shut off but all the electrical remained on.
Ive tried replacing the coil, everything on the distributor, the CPS, and cleaned and checked all the grounds.
(MayI add that when I got this Cherokee it had a check engine light on)
When i unplug the CPS it still cranks and all the gauges go back to normal. Its a CPS from NAPA but i heard that your supposed to get one directly from the Chrysler dealer?
Anyway, Ive heard about the ECU, Igition Switch, and oxygen sensors but im skeptical to go out and spend more money trying to repair this stupid thing! Please help!!!!
Edit: Replaced coil as well!

Try some actual diagnostics before throwing any more parts at it.
Check for proper fuel pressure, and check for GOOD spark.
For a motor to run you need air, fuel, and spark. Chances are its one of those 3, if you figure out which one we can help further.

I forgot to mention that I tried the coil as well. Nothing. The CPS I put in is only about a year old and still I tried a new one and it didnt work.
